CAN PEOPLE CONFIDE IN YOU?

18 May

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “PEOPLE WANT A SAFE PLACE TO SHARE THEIR BURDENS”

Memory Verse: “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves”. Romans 15:1.

One of the attributes of a great leader or evidence of maturity is a large mind – ability to hold someone’s personal affairs entrusted into one’s hand by reasons of one’s age and position. In a situation whereby people begin to hear about what they confide in you from the third party, they get disappointed and angry. They felt stripped naked on the street, in some situations, people like that could withdraw from faith and shrink back to their shells – particularly in a religious gathering.

People have a right to expect confidentiality. Beside, only in the safe environment of acceptance will people open up and share their deepest needs. Confidentiality does not always mean keeping silent. It just means that what is shared in your group needs to stay in your group, and that your group needs to deal with it, not go and blab about it to others.

Usually these individuals have emotional hang-ups, deep insecurities, irritating mannerisms and poor social skills. God brings them into our lives for their benefits and ours. Yes, they are an opportunity to grow in grace. Will we love them as brothers and sisters and treat them with dignity? In a real family, acceptance is not based on how smart, beautiful or talented you are; it is based on the fact that you belong to each other. We all have quirks and annoying traits. Yes, you too! Exposing someone’s weak points or inadequacies as a result of immaturity is counter-productive and makes people feel naked or murdered.

However, this is not to say one should condone or cover sins or what will hamper corporate growth. Being a custodian of people’s secrets is a privilege. Do not abuse it under whatever circumstance. Trust God to make you more mature, and for grace to screen what comes out of your mouth. You will increase in respect and dignity in Jesus name. Keep growing in grace.
