QUOTE OF THE DAY: “A MAN’S VALUE IS HIS CONTRIBUTION TO LIFE”

Memory Verse: “The little you had before I came has increased greatly, and the Lord has blessed you wherever I have been. But now, when may I do something for my own household?” Genesis 30:30.

Today is Labour day. It is an annual holiday being celebrated all over the world. It is a day set aside by the International Labour Organization to celebrate the economic and social achievements of all workers – in essence, their contributions to the economy at large. Work is life. Apart from serving God, it is the next thing as far as human existence on earth is concerned. God too was not exempted from work! Jesus said ‘my father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working’ John 5:17.

Through your work, you contribute both to life and the economy of your nation. Your work gives your talent an expression; it makes you fulfill the essence of your creation, earns you a living, and ultimately, it makes life meaningful. In an organization, workers may be many, but they are differently valued and rated.

This variation in value is as a result of the quality of individual’s contribution to the growth and progress of the company. Interestingly, now that there has been a paradigm shift from Industrial Age to Information Age, predominantly we operate knowledge economy. Intellectual capital is more valued than all other factors of production.

This is exactly what companies like Microsoft, Apple, Toyota and so on pay for in their employee. The reason is the mental aspect of any assignment is greater than the manual aspect. Stop complaining where you are now. Rather, think of how to increase the value of your contribution. Do everything in your power to increase your competence and marketability.
