EVALUATE YOUR CURRENT WORK HABITS

20 Apr

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “GOD IS THE ULTIMATE RECIPIENT OF EVERY SERVICE”

Memory Verse: “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men”. Ephesians 6:7.

A random survey of working people would probably reveal that more than 50% of the people do not really like their jobs. Many might even say that they despise their work. Perhaps that is why the idea of working for the weekend is so unpopular in some western culture. People want to get away from the workplace as soon as possible.

In an atmosphere or organization where this occurs, there is no doubt the level of productivity will continually decline. [pullquote]Is your job not delivering as expected? Is it that you are not proud of it anymore? Are your colleagues doing the same job getting better than you? [/pullquote]Besides, the growth of both the employees and the establishment will get stunted. Unfortunately, this kind of attitude can eat away at a person’s ability to perform well on the job. An I-really-do-not-want-to-be-here employee will often choose to do just enough work or give just enough effort to get by. Perhaps you have felt this way about your job from time to time too. Paul the Apostle addressed this issue of attitude in a sweeping statement to the Colossians. He said ‘whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him (Colossians 3:17).

Is your job not delivering as expected? Is it that you are not proud of it anymore? Are your colleagues doing the same job getting better than you? If the job is the right one for you, then, check and evaluate your attitude to the job. Do you show up to work on time and work the expected number of hours? Do you use your time efficiently? Are you focused on the task at hand? Do you anticipate problems and attempt to avoid them whenever possible? To start with, provide objective and honest answers to the above questions. Besides, do the following: speak positively about your job. Always consider the big purpose of your job. Talk with your boss and ask how you can improve as an employee. Make a list of the top ten good things about your job.

Call a co-worker and ask for his or her opinion on your general attitude at work. Sign up for a specific resource that can improve your work skills. Working as if for God may seem like a daunting task, but it’s extremely rewarding. Have a lovely day!
