QUOTE OF THE DAY: “EVERY STAGE OF LIFE PRESENTS LESSONS TO BE LEARNT”
Memory Verse: “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out”. Proverbs 18:15.
Most talented people have difficulties when it comes to staying teachable. Sometimes they act like they know it all. That makes it hard for them to keep developing. Teachability is not so much about competence and mental capacity as it is about attitude: it’s the hunger to discover and grow.
It is the willingness to learn, unlearn and relearn.According to John Wooden, ‘it is what you learn after you know it all that counts’. Besides being an astonishing painter and sculptor, Leonardo da Vinci was a genius in more fields than many scientists of any age. His note books were hundreds of years ahead of their time. He anticipated submarines, helicopters and other modern inventions.
In one notebook he wrote, ‘iron rusts from disuse’, stagnant water loses its purity and in cold, weather water becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigour of the mind’. He was always driven by desire to know more. He was learning and writing discoveries in his notebooks until the very end of his life. The most important skill to acquire is learning how to learn.
According to one theory of human being, ‘people subconsciously retard their own growth; they come to rely on cliché’s and habits, once they reach the age of their own personal comfort with the world, they stop learning and their minds run on idle for the rest of their days’.
It is a tragedy when we allow ourselves to get in a rut and never climb out. We mess up the best God has to offer. Confined to a dungeon and facing the certainty of an executioner’s chopping block, in 2 Timothy 4:13, Paul still wrote to Timothy and asked him to bring paper and books for him to write and read.
The Roman scholar Cato started to study Greek when he was 80. When asked why he was tackling such a difficult task at his age he replied; ‘It’s the earliest age I have left’. Teachable people are fully engaged in life and they get excited about things. They are always open to new ideas and are willing to learn from anyone who has something to offer.
[pullquote]It is a tragedy when we allow ourselves to get in a rut and never climb out. We mess up the best God has to offer. [/pullquote]You may not have the talent of Leonardo da Vinci to be teachable. All you need is the right attitude; you can choose to be teachable and continue to learn them or we can be close-minded and stop growing. The decision is yours. But remember, to stop learning is to stop leading. Receive grace to overcome complacency. God will direct oversize blessing to you today. Remain blessed!
