SPOKEN WORDS CAN’T BE RETRIEVED

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “A FOOL SPEAKS BEFORE THINKING, A WISE MAN THINKS BEFORE SPEAKING”

Memory Verse: “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it”. Isaiah 55:11.

A person who says whatever he likes usually ends up hearing what he does not like. Words reflect attitude. It devastates, it creates and it hurts, also it destroys relationships. More people have been hurt by an improper choice of words than by any natural disaster.

The reason is words have poisonous psychological effects on human body system. According to James 3:6, the most dangerous and sensitive part of human body parts is the tongue. It is the shortest and easiest path to death and destruction. Often, we enter into trouble through excessive talking, failing to realize that excessive talking does not mean communication. Negative words are better not spoken because they are like eggs. The moment they are released they cannot be recovered. Besides, the negative effects remain unstoppable.

One day, a farmer slandered his neighbour. Realizing his mistakes; he went to the preacher to ask for forgiveness. The preacher told him to take a bag of feathers and drop them in the centre of town.[pullquote]Often, we enter into trouble through excessive talking, failing to realize that excessive talking does not mean communication.[/pullquote] The farmer did as he was told. Then the preacher asked him to go and collect the feathers and put them back in the bag. The farmer tried but could not as the feathers had all been blown away.

When he returned with the empty bag, the preacher said, ‘The same thing is true about words. You drop them easily but you cannot retrieve them. The month of February was short of two days as a result of what Joshua said in Joshua 10:12-15. The curse of leprosy angrily released upon Gehazi by Elisha made the entire generation of Gehazi leprous till today. Having known this, won’t you now resolve to be cautious about the use of words? Be tactful about words. I mean, knowing what to say and what to leave unsaid.

Choose what you say rather than say what you choose. Pray to God daily to give you control over your tongue. Resolve today to say only what edifies, not what destroys. Remember, death and life are in the power of the tongue. God will protect you against all forms of evil. You will go out in peace and return with joy. Experience God’s peace!

DIVINE INSTRUCTION FOR THE DAY: PUT A LITTLE SALT OR SUGAR ON YOUR TONGUE TODAY AND START SPEAKING GOOD THINGS TO YOUR LIFE AND ALL THINGS CONNECTED TO YOU.

PROPHETIC PRAYERS:

  • Oh Lord, give me control over all anger-induced words.
  • I am a builder, I am not a destroyer; from today, I shall speak to edify in Jesus name.
  • By your blood oh Lord, neutralizes the poisonous effects of words I have carelessly uttered on fellow humans.
  •  Today, anoint my tongue; let something awesome be created by my words.
